Value Chain Development

Social Action for Rural Development (SARDA) focuses on strengthening agricultural value chains to ensure that farmers receive better returns for their produce. The organization works across different stages of the agricultural value chain, including production, aggregation, processing, packaging, branding, and marketing, enabling farmers to participate more effectively in modern markets.

SARDA is currently supporting 62 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) across multiple states with assistance from institutions such as NABARD, Small Farmers’ Agribusiness Consortium (SFAC), National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC), and Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Federation (UPPCF). These FPOs are promoted under national programs like the Central Sector Scheme (CSS) for the Formation and Promotion of 10,000 FPOs under the CBBO model, as well as initiatives such as NABARD’s Producer Organization Development Fund – Interest Free Loan (PODF-ID) and other sector-specific schemes.

Through these farmer-led institutions, SARDA helps farmers collectively market their produce, reduce transaction costs, and improve their bargaining power in the marketplace. The organization also promotes value addition in agricultural commodities such as millets, vegetables, oilseeds, horticulture products, honey, and other farm-based produce.

By supporting processing, branding, packaging, and direct market connections, SARDA enables farmer collectives to capture greater value from their produce, expand their market reach, and develop sustainable agri-enterprises that strengthen rural livelihoods and local economies.
