Climate Action & Resilience
Building Climate-Resilient Rural Communities
Social Action for Rural Development (SARDA) actively promotes climate action and resilience in rural landscapes by integrating sustainable agriculture, natural resource management, and community-led environmental conservation. With increasing climate variability affecting rural livelihoods, SARDA supports farmers and communities in adopting climate-smart solutions that enhance resilience while protecting natural ecosystems.
SARDA implements a range of climate-resilient interventions including watershed development, agroforestry, climate-smart agriculture, soil and water conservation, and carbon sequestration-based initiatives. These interventions help rural communities adapt to changing rainfall patterns, droughts, floods, and other climate-related risks while ensuring sustainable livelihood opportunities.
The organization implements these initiatives through various national programs and development schemes such as Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) promotion under the CBBO-CSS scheme, NABARD’s Producer Organization Development Fund (PODF-ID), Farm Sector Promotion Fund (FSPF), Livelihood and Enterprise Development Programme (LEDP), Krishak Pathshala, Tribal Development Fund (TDF-WADI), and watershed development programs.
Through its strong grassroots presence, SARDA promotes agroforestry systems, climate-resilient cropping practices, diversified farming systems, and improved water management. The organization also supports carbon credit-based agroforestry initiatives, encouraging farmers to plant trees on farmlands to improve soil fertility, enhance biodiversity, and contribute to climate change mitigation.
SARDA’s climate resilience approach combines community participation, scientific planning, and institutional strengthening, ensuring that farmers and rural communities are better prepared to manage environmental challenges. Through training, demonstration plots, farmer field schools, and extension services, SARDA empowers rural households to adopt sustainable agricultural practices that improve productivity while conserving natural resources.
By integrating watershed management, agroforestry, climate-smart agriculture, and farmer institutions, SARDA contributes to building climate-resilient rural ecosystems and sustainable livelihoods across its operational regions.
