About SARDA

2 Decades of Trust and Belief

Social Action for Rural Development (SARDA) is a nationally recognised development organisation dedicated to promoting sustainable rural development and community empowerment across India. Established in 2001 and registered under the Societies Registration Act, SARDA has built over two decades of trust and belief through its consistent efforts to improve the socio-economic conditions of rural and marginalised communities.

Operating across 10 states in India, including Jharkhand, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Jammu & Kashmir, West Bengal, and Rajasthan, SARDA implements a wide range of development initiatives in partnership with government departments, national agencies, financial institutions, and corporate partners.

To effectively implement its programs and provide specialised services, SARDA functions through three dedicated operational wings:

  • Direct Action Project Unit (DAP) – responsible for implementing grassroots development initiatives and field-based projects.

  • Resource Support Project Unit (RSU) – provides technical consultancy and research-based services, including Social Impact Assessments (SIA), Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), Rehabilitation & Resettlement (R&R) studies, asset valuation, monitoring and evaluation, and socio-economic studies.

CSR Unit – implements and manages Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects, focusing on sustainable livelihoods, climate resilience, clean energy, and community development.

To strengthen the implementation of development programs and ensure data-driven planning, SARDA has also established a dedicated GIS (Geographic Information System) Cell. The GIS section supports the planning, monitoring, mapping, and evaluation of various government and development projects, enabling evidence-based decision-making and efficient project implementation.

SARDA works across key thematic areas such as Natural Resource Management, watershed development, sustainable agriculture, Farmer-Producer Organisations (FPOs), agribusiness development, tribal development, women empowerment, climate-resilient agriculture, rural capacity building, and youth skill development. The organisation has been actively involved in implementing major national initiatives including Jal Jeevan Mission, watershed development programs, FPO promotion under the CBBO model, Tribal Development Fund (TDF-WADI), Farm Sector Promotion Fund (FSPF), LEDP, Krishak Pathshala, and carbon credit-based agroforestry projects, among many other livelihood and forest-based development programs.

With strong grassroots engagement and technical expertise, SARDA has positively impacted over 2.5 lakh rural households across hundreds of blocks and districts, empowering farmers, women, youth, and tribal communities to build sustainable livelihoods and resilient rural economies.

Guided by its vision of inclusive and sustainable development, SARDA continues its mission of transforming rural lives through innovation, partnerships, and community participation.
