Social Action for Rural Development (SARDA) plays a significant role in promoting and strengthening Farmer-Producer Organisations (FPOs) to empower small and marginal farmers through collective enterprise development and improved market access. As part of its ongoing initiatives, SARDA is currently supporting and implementing 62 Farmer-Producer Organisations across multiple states of India.

These FPOs are promoted under various national programs and institutional initiatives such as the Central Sector Scheme (CSS) for Formation and Promotion of 10,000 FPOs under the CBBO model, Producer Organisation Development Fund – Interest Free Loan (PODF-ID), and other sectoral programs supported by institutions including NABARD, Small Farmers’ Agribusiness Consortium (SFAC), National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC), and Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Federation (UPPCF).

Through these initiatives, SARDA organises farmers into professionally managed Farmer-Producer Companies (FPCs) that enable them to aggregate produce, access quality inputs at competitive prices, and strengthen their bargaining power in markets. SARDA provides end-to-end technical and institutional support, including farmer mobilisation, company registration, governance strengthening, Board of Directors capacity building, financial literacy, business plan preparation, and market linkage development.

By facilitating access to credit, government schemes, value-addition opportunities, and organised markets, SARDA helps FPOs evolve into sustainable, farmer-led enterprises, thereby enhancing rural livelihoods and contributing to the development of resilient and inclusive agricultural economies.
